Over the weekend, an estimated 1700 amateur dance enthusiasts gathered in the Chinese city of Jiaxing in Zhejiang province taking part in the Fitness for All National Dance Competition. Those dancing, were of all ages including the 83-years-young Weng Jingui from Anhui province who joined the standard dance final on Sunday.
The octogenarian Weng certainly looking and moving much better than his age would suggest. Following his retirement from a career of factory work, Weng caught the dance bug and hasn’t been able to shake it.
From standard to Latin dance to other various forms, Weng can do them all and on Sunday he finished third in the standard competition. His final fell on the Chongyang Festival, the traditional day to celebrate seniors here in China. Weng says dancing on the day was the perfect way to mark the occasion as it is something that brings him great happiness.
"I like to join such kinds of competitions. Dancing together with seniors or young people brings me a lot of fun. I also enjoy learning different styles of dance. It can bring me lots of benefits. From dance, I can get fitter and be healthier. I can also make friends." Weng Jingui said.
