The Sixth International Cultural Festival of Contemporary Dance (FCIDC), opened Saturday in Algiers with troupes from Algeria, Palestine, as guest of honor, and Russia giving, by the grace of movement, impetus to atavism in search of freedom and well-being.
Scheduled from November 15 to 22 at the Mahieddine Bachtarzi National Theatre (TNA), the festival attracted a numerous public for the inaugural evening.
The young ballerinas performed, on a background of classical music a varied string of movements and displacements, with finesse in the gesture, and grace in the dance, heralding a bright future.
Palestinian troupe "East and Dance Theater", then presented an excerpt from "Voyage", a choreography linking the dream to action, designed by Maher Chawamreh, giving a taste of the history of a place of origin with its historical density, heritage and culture, living in existential torment.
Kevin Michael and Si M’Hamed Benhalima, two hip-hop dancers representing the Company "Accrorap" directed by choreographer Kader Attu, tried a very physical exercise where the stake is to find ways and opportunities to overcome adversity in all its forms.
Two bodies in distress producing rapid and jerky movements, going in all directions, are self-seeking, in an attempt to bring order into disorder and find harmony they need.
"We are very pleased to be among the participants in the festival, the setting is very nice and our wish is to return again and again because we love this country", said the two dancers together.
The numerous public has long applauded the artists, in the presence of Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa, chairman of the National People's Assembly (APN), Abdelkader Zoukh, Wali of Algiers and Nadia Labidi, Minister of Culture, who opened the 6th FCIDC.
