The play "Salah Bey" of Constantine Regional Theatre (TRC) was warmly welcomed on Friday night in Jijel where it was presented in the Omar-Oussedik Culture Palace.
Scheduled as part of the event "Constantine, capital of Arab Culture 2015," this play attracted a large public made of connoisseurs of the 4th art.
The play is "a journey through time and space," said APS spectator, full of admiration for the excellent performance of the troupe of the TRC.
The 90-minute play, directed by Mohamed Tayeb Dehimi, on a text written by Boulmerka Said, shows the character of Salah, 16 years old, arriving in Algiers Port from Izmir (Turkey). Then comes a psychic, who predicted a bright and stunning future to the one who would be the future Bey (ruler) of Constantine.
it presents a "re-read history of Salah Bey", the director and the author of the text has mixed history with fiction to present an adapted art work, Dehimi told APS.
Regarding the history of the black veil (M'laya), worn by women in Constantine and in the country's eastern region as a sign of mourning after the execution of the Bey, the director said that this is a "historical untruth."
For Dehimi, Constantine's women never mourned Salah Bey because the dark veil "came long before, with the Fatimid state. ''
"We have been sufficient taught false truths and lies. It's time to tackle other legends that have corrupted the history of the city of bridges," he insisted.
