The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ opened Saturday the G-Ring Road, including its five lanes and parts of its eight main interchanges in the presence of HE Minister of Transport and Communications (MOTC), Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, and HE Minister of Municipality and Environment (MME), Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, in the presence of HE Dr. Eng. Saad bin Ahmad Al Muhannadi, President of the Public Works Authority, as well as a number of senior officials from the MME, MOTC, Ashghal, the General Directorate of Traffic in the MOI.
The G-Ring Road project, which extends for 22 km to connect between Hamad International Airport and the Orbital Highway at a total cost of approximately 4 billion Qatari Riyals.
HE Minister of Municipality and Environment stressed that the State took into consideration in the planning of the roads the urban expansions, the increase in population and the movement of trade.
The G-Ring Road is one of the important roads as it can absorb expansion of the surrounding areas and the increase of cars over the next 30 years, HE Al Rumaihi stressed .
He also pointed out that the road connects the Hamad International Airport with Wakra and the new residential area between Al Wakra and Al Wakir and the residential area in south of Al Thamamah, bringing these areas closer to the rest of the country.
For his part, HE. Dr. Eng. Saad bin Ahmad Al Muhannadi, President of the Public Works Authority, expressed his deep appreciation for His Excellency s commitment to follow up closely on the implementation progress of these projects on the ground, and for his multiple visits to these projects. And he stressed Ashghal’s commitment to the directives of His Excellency the Prime Minister to deliver Ashghal’s projects on or before their schedules. This was achieved through the opening of the G-Ring Road, as part of the authority’s efforts to accelerate the pace of implementation and reschedule some projects to be delivered before the planned dates.
He Dr. Eng. Saad bin Ahmad Al Muhannadi said that the G-Ring Road, which was opened today including all of its lanes and parts of its eight main interchanges, will ease pressure on Doha's main roads and shorten travel times to most of the destinations it serves.
Ahghal’s President also explained that the G-Ring Road is an important axis that provides additional transportation options, and is connected with a number of expressways such as the Orbital Highway and Al Wakra Bypass. The G-Ring Road is connected with the opened part of the Orbital Highway, creating a fast, non-stop road with a length of more than 50 km from Hamad International Airport to Dukhan Road via Salwa Road. This will shorten the travel time between Hamad International Airport, Al Wajba, Rayyan, Bani Hajer and Dukhan.
