The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources agreed to allocate EGP 60 million to operate 40 wells, used for agricultural purposes, in the New Valley Governorate, Governor Mahmoud Ashmawy said Saturday.
Thirty wells are being operated, while 10 others will enter service soon, he added.
Ashmawy said every well cost EGP 1.5 million.
The 40 wells are part of a total of 190 planned to be operated in the governorate to save energy and overcome repetitive failures of wells operated by diesel engines, he added.
