Iraqi PM, Haitham Al – Jubouri said that he submitted a proposal to cancel officials and retired salaries’ cuts after the increase of Iraq financial resources, because of the raise in oil prices in international markets.
Three years ago, Iraq took extreme measures to face the collapse of oil prices and spend on its war against Daesh, so the government decided to cut a percentage from officials salaries, cancelled government positions, combined ministries, and made a lot of officers to retire.
Al – Jubouri said that he made this proposal after he found the increase will cover the cuts, as Iraq depend on oil revenues by 95% to pay for its officials. He added that, the constitution confirmed that any cut must be done by the law, and the government approval for this proposal isn’t needed, because the government is supposed to take care of its citizens, not the other way around. The parliament voted last November to cut 3.8% of officials and retired salaries within the year budget.
