His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has directed the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, to launch a campaign on the occasion of the Eid al-Adha in various Yemeni governorates to support families of martyrs and those wounded.
The campaign was launched in the framework of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's keenness to support and help the brotherly people of Yemen.
In a press conference today, the ERC, with the follow-up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and ERC Chairman, launched a campaign under the slogan "Zayed's Legacy to Support Yemeni People" is in accordance with the directives of the wise leadership and in honour of all Yemeni people, especially the families of martyrs and the wounded, for sacrifices in their endeavours defending their land.
The campaign will provide the families with Eid clothing, gifts for children, and cash distribution along with vouchers to purchase necessities. The distribution process will start in various Yemeni governorates on 20th of August and will last until the third day of Eid al-Adha in order to bring happiness on the occasion.
Speaking on the launch of the campaign, Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al-Falahi, Secretary-General of the ERC, said that the wise leadership spares no effort to enhance the UAE's humanitarian response to their brothers in Yemen since the outbreak of the crisis there.
He also pointed out that the UAE, along with its humanitarian organisations, has provided many forms of help and support to those affected, thus becoming one of the most generous donor nations with regard to Yemen.
Al-Falahi added, "This campaign is a continuation of the UAE's humanitarian, relief and development approach in Yemen, and reflects the pride of the UAE and its people in the brotherly people of Yemen and their sacrifices."
The ERC Secretary-General stressed that the UAE leadership's attention to the current humanitarian situation in Yemen reflects the strength of relations and the lasting ties between the UAE and Yemen.
He also confirmed the determination of the UAE to continue its endeavours, humanitarian programmes and development projects to improve the lives of the Yemeni people.
