A total of 3 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1.08 billion Singapore dollars (773.04 million U.S. dollars).
Decliners outnumbered gainers 285 to 177.
The STI index gained 15.97 points, or 0.51 percent, to close at 3,142.90 on March 24.
