In implementation of the Government Action Plan, led by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, for the aim of reviving nationwide infrastructure development in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Ministry of Works (MoW) had, by the end of 2013, completed the implementation of a large number of development projects under its strategic plan aimed to provide infrastructures that supports the economy, and to attract more investments as well as enhance the efficacy and quality of services offered to citizens and residents in the Kingdom.Minister of Works engineer Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf said that these projects attest to the Government's commitment to investing on infrastructure projects aimed to ameliorate the livelihood of citizens all over the Kingdom's rural and urban areas in compliance with the directives of His Royal Highness the Prime Minister.The Minister of Works pointed out that the total number of tenders awarded until the end of December 2013 reached 71 tenders at a total cost of BD 65,885,618 (Sixty-five million, eight-hundred eighty-five thousands and six-hundred and eighteen Bahraini dinars); meanwhile, the number of tenders offered during the same period was 77 tenders at a total cost of BD 116,149,015 (One-hundred-and-Sixteen million, one-hundred forty-nine thousands and fifteen Bahraini dinars).Engineer Khalaf revealed that the total number of tenders awarded in the roads sector reached 19 tenders at a total cost of BD 11,212,961 (Eleven million, two-hundred and twelve thousand and nine-hundred and sixty-one Bahraini dinars); meanwhile, the number of tenders offered was 20 tenders at a total estimated cost of BD 31, 823,085 (Thirty-one million, eight-hundred and twenty-three thousand and eighty-five Bahraini dinars). And in the sanitary engineering sector, Minister Khalaf said that the total number of tenders awarded reached 23 tenders at a total cost of BD 19,897,081 (Nineteen million, eight-hundred ninety-seven thousand and eighty-one Bahraini dinars); meanwhile, the number of tenders offered was 31 tenders at a total estimated cost of BD 32,544,330 (Thirty-two million, five-hundred and forty-four thousand and three hundred and thirty Bahraini dinars).Engineer Khalaf added that regarding building projects, the total number of tenders awarded was 29 tenders at a total estimated cost of BD 34,775,574 (Thirty-four million, seven-hundred and seventy-five thousand and five-hundred and seventy-four Bahraini dinars); meanwhile, the number of tenders offered was 26 tenders at a total estimated cost of BD 51,781,600 (Fifty-one million, seven-hundred and eighty-one thousand and six-hundred Bahraini dinars). Also, in the year 2013, 8 tenders were offered as part of the Gulf development projects at a total estimated cost of BD 39,646,032 (Thirty-nine million, six-hundred and forty-six thousand and thirty-two Bahraini dinars) as directed by the Ministry's Committee on Infrastructure and supported by the Ministry of Finance to benefit from the Gulf Development program. The Ministry presented to thr financing funds several development projects in the field of developing infrastructure and government buildings and obtained approval for financing a number of important projects pertaining to services which affect citizens and residents directly.The number of projects presented to, and financed by, the Saudi Development Fund was 7 tenders reaching an estimated cost of BD 35,029,500 (Thirty-five million, and twenty-nine thousands and five-hundred Bahraini dinars) including two tenders pertaining to the roads sector namely: phase one of construction of the Muharraq ringroad Street project, the second intersection project on the Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Avenue and the road linking between Roundabout 13 and Roundabout 18 in Hamad Town in addition to 5 tenders related to the buildings sector namely the construction of Hamad Town Intermediate School for Boys, al-Busaiteen Intermediate School for Girls, Isa Town Primary School for Boys, al-Malikya Primary and Intermediate School for Girls and al-Hunainiya Secondary School for Boys.Meanwhile the number of tenders offered, financed by the Kuwaiti Development Fund, was one tender; namely the preliminary work for the Shaikh Jabir Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Avenue development project – both the Alba and Nuwaidrat intersections – at an estimated total cost of BD 4,616,532 (Four million, and six-hundred and sixteen thousand and five-hundred and thirty-two Bahraini dinars).
