The State of Qatar will commission next Tuesday Ras Qartas Energy Plant, the biggest power generation plant in the country and the region. The plant, located at Ras Laffan Industrial City, will produce 2730 megawatts of electricity, and 63 million gallons of desalinated water at a total cost of 14 billion Riyals (about $ 4 billion). Vice-Chairman of Ras Qartas Energy Company\'s Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer Faisal Obeid Al-Siddiqi said in an exclusive interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the Qatari side owns 60% of Ras Qartas strategic plant of which 45% is owned by Qatar Electricity and Water Company and 15 % by Qatar Petroleum (QP). He added that the plant which will enhance economic development has a 25-year contract with Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) under the terms of which Ras Qartas will supply all its production to Kahramaa which in turn will use it to feed the local network or externally in the context of the GCC Electricity Link-up System .
