Spain's consumer prices fell by 1.1 percent in April when compared with the same month last year, Spain's Statistical Office (INE) confirmed on Friday.

The INE said prices of items related to leisure and culture fell by 2.6 percent, housing prices fell by 7.1 percent, and transport prices fell by 5.1 percent.

Meanwhile, hotel industry prices rose by 1.1 percent, prices of food and non alcoholic drinks rose by 2 percent, and those of communications increased by 3.4 percent.

Spanish prices have been falling for four consecutive months year-on-year after falling by 0.3 percent in January and by 0.8 percent in February and March.

The inflation rate was negative almost throughout 2015 except for the months of June, July and December when the rates were 0.1 percent, 0.1 percent and 0 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, on a month-to-month basis, consumer prices increased by 0.7 percent in April due to higher prices of fuel, shoes, restaurants, food, and telephone services.
