Lufthansa pilots union calls for strike

Pilots at Deutsche Lufthansa AG said Monday they would walk off the job Wednesday on short and mid-haul flights because of a continuing dispute over early retirement benefits, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit called on its members to strike Wednesday from 12:01 a.m. local time through midnight local time on Germany-wide flights at the company’s passenger airline.
Flights at Lufthansa’s budget units Germanwings and Eurowings won’t be affected, the union said.
The dispute between Lufthansa and its pilots centers on a proposal by the airline to lift the early retirement age for new hires.
The union said the two parties met last week to discuss early retirement benefits, but no progress had been made.
