Millionaire murder suspect Robert Durst was denied bail Monday in a Louisiana court.
Prosectors argued that the New York City real estate heir posed a flight risk. Authorities said he mailed himself $100,000 in cash and kept a map of Cuba in his hotel room.
Durst's attorney, Dick DeGuerin, told reporters outside the courthouse that he didn't expect his client would be granted bail.
"I didn't have any hope at all the judge was going to set a bail bond," DeGuerin said. "All in all, I think this has been a very good day for us."
Durst, 71, has been charged with the 2000 murder of his friend Susan Berman, who was shot to death at her home in California. In 2000, he killed and dismembered his neighbor, Morris Black, in Galveston, Texas. Durst claimed self-defense and was acquitted. He is also a suspect in the death of his first wife, Kathleen, who disappeared in 1982.
Durst is also subject of a six-part HBO documentary series The Jinx, which concluded hours after his arrest in New Orleans on March 18. The finale featured audio recording of Durst talking to himself in the bathroom.
"I killed them all, of course," he said.
On Monday, Vermont police said they were also investigating Durst's possible involvement in the 1971 disappearance of Lynn Schulze. She disappeared in Middlebury, where Durst operated a health food store at the time.
