Los Angeles - UPI

A jury ordered Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams to pay $7.4 million to the family of the late Marvin Gaye for ripping off "Got to Give It Up"
The court ordered the artists to pay $4 million in copyright damages in addition to the profits from the infringement -- $1.8 million for Thicke and $1.6 million for Williams -- totaling $7.4 million.
"While we respect the judicial process, we are extremely disappointed in the ruling made today, which sets a horrible precedent for music and creativity going forward," Thicke, Williams and T.I. said in a statement. "'Blurred Lines' was created from the heart and minds of Pharrell, Robin and T.I. and not taken from anyone or anywhere else. We are reviewing the decision, considering our options and you will hear more from us soon about this matter."
Gaye's children, who are the plaintiffs in the case, said they are going to try to get an injunction to stop the sales of the song until they can figure out how to split the royalties going forward.
Gaye left all of the copyrights to his music to his children upon his death in 1984.
