At least eight soldiers and 21 militants were killed and several others wounded during a major clearance operation in Khyber tribal region, north Pakistan, on Wednesday.
A statement by media wing of Pakistan military, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said: "Eight soldiers embraced shahdat (martyrdom) during fierce fighting and exchange of fire with terrorists." The military claimed to kill at least 21 militants in Spin Qamar area of Khyber Agency during the operation.
Earlier today, ISPR Director General Maj.-Gen. Asim Bajwa said at a press conference that over 1,100 terrorists were killed during military operation 'Zarb-i-Azb' in North Waziristan tribal region and 44 others during 'Khyber-I' operation in Khyber Agency.
Khyber is one of the seven semi-autonomous tribal regions bordering Afghanistan with heavy presence of foreign and local militants.
