Unidentified gunmen on Wednesday assassinated a Red Cross senior official in Libya's western city of Sirte, according to a security source.
The source said that unknown armed men in a white Chevrolet fired at Michael Jones, the director of the Red Cross Misrata branch, killing him on the spot.
Jones was just leaving his office when the incident took place and his death was immediately reported to authorities concerned.
Libya has witnessed a drastic escalation of violence and become a major base of extremists in North Africa since 2011 revolt which toppled former leader Muammar Gaddafi.
