A member of the 204 Tank Battalion of the Libyan army was arrested after trying to assassinate commander of the brigade Mehdi Albergta via planting a bomb in his own car, an official said.
The member was in contact with a member of a brigade affiliated to Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries who promised to give him 750,000 Libyan dinars if he executed the operation.
Libya has been split for nearly a year between an elected parliament in the country's far east, Tobruk, and an Islamist-led government backed by militias that seized the capital.
