Iraqi army and police forces, supported by international coalition warplanes, clashed with Daesh militants and approached Al-Shuhada district in south Falluja city in Anbar province.
In statements on Friday, spokesman for the Joint Operation Command Yahya Al-Zubaidi said the forces killed a number of Daesh terrorists in the clashes including Daesh's new leader in Falluja.
Also, Daesh positions and a number of tunnels were destroyed in the district.
The spokesman asserted that the forces did not storm the district yet.
Meanwhile, Baghdad Operations Commander Abdul-Amir al-Shamri said the Iraqi jets shelled a Daesh position in northwestern Falluja in which a Daesh leader and 52 others were killed while an armored vehicle and a motorcycle were destroyed and 16 booby-trapped houses and a tunnel were defused as well as other 53 explosives.
Also, five missile launchers were destroyed in the operation, al-Shamri further said.
