Iraqi forces foiled an armed attack by Daesh militants in southern Mosul in Ninawa province on Monday, Commander of Ninawa Liberation Operations Command Negm el Gabouri said.
Fierce clashes erupted between the two sides, leaving many Iraqi soldiers and terrorists dead and wounded, he added.
The forces dismantled seven booby-trapped cars.
An Iraqi police force also foiled another attack by Daesh militants in Ratba town in Anbar governorate, a security source said.
The militants attacked a police station in western Ratba town, triggering clashes that left three policemen and 11 terrorists dead.
Taking advantage of the Arab spring that hit many Arab countries, Daesh militant group managed to seize large swaths in Iraq and Syria in 2014. But it began to suffer a string of military defeats this year.
