At least 100 militants from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have been killed over the last three days in clashes with Kurdish defenders of the Syrian town of Ain Al-Arab (Konabe), according to a monitoring group.
Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga fighters entered Kobane Friday night to help push back ISIL militants, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said, adding that the fighters set themselves up in the town, but have not so far participated in the fighting.
There was fierce fighting between ISIL militants and the Kurdish defenders over Friday night almost across Kobane, on the border with Turkey, in an attempt of the militants to take control of the town, SOHR added.
A state of cautious calm prevailed in the town but it was sometimes broken by some mortars launched by the militants and exchange of fire between the warring parties.
In a related development, the Syria Rebel Front (SRF) announced that it withdrew from Jabal Al-Zawia and other areas in Idlib, saying this move came to stop bloodshed. Jamal Maarouf, head of SRF, said that Nusra Front besieged Jabal Al-Zawia and the Syrian regime's troops, saying that the SRF took control of Jabal Al-Zawia before the formation of Nusra Front.
He said the SFR liberated Idlib from the regime, and from ISIL, and said they will liberate it from Nusra Front.
Maarouf warned Nusra Front of trying to take control of areas and towns in Idlib, indicating that some ISIL militants are battling under the umbrella of Nusra in the city.
