33,000 Syrian Refugees in Jordan

There are some 33,000 Syrian refugees in Syria, according to the office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. The office said in a statement that nearly 1000 refugees were crossing the border every day to escape the raging fighting in their country. The statement said that the British Foreign Secretary William Hague pledged during this week’s visit to the border area to extend assistance to Jordan which is hosting a growing number of refugees.
