Eighteen people were killed east of Syria during clashes between operatives of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and local tribal militias, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Tuesday.
The observatory said that the clashes occurred in Deir Ezzor city, east of Syria, adding that local militias managed to capture several members of the ISIL which were involved in the clashes.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said that the Syrian army had targeted anti-regime groups throughout Syria.
While the war in Syria still rages on since it began on March 15, 2011, the situation for millions of Syrian refugees and displaced continued to be bleak despite efforts from the international community to ease their pain.
The recent resurgence of extreme elements such as the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) in Syria only complicated things and paints a more grime future for the ongoing violence in the country.
