Water Resources Minister Hosam Moghazi said on Tuesday that 50 percent of the operations of the "new Assiut barrage" project and its hydroelectric station has been finalized.
"The four-billion pound project aims at generating 32 megawatts of clean electricity," Moghazi said in statements during his inspection tour of a number of water resources and irrigation projects in Upper Egypt.
The project will be completed by the end of 2017, the minister added.
