Energy Minister Ibrahim Saif

Jordanian Energy Minister Ibrahim Saif has said that a gas port in Aqaba would help meet local needs for electricity and the surplus, if any, could be offered to Egypt, which is suffering from gas shortage itself.

In press statements, he added that Amman and Cairo had agreed during a meeting of the joint committee here that Egypt would benefit from any surplus of the gas imported by Jordan.

Jordanian technical committees have also recently taken part in meetings with Iraqi officials to discuss extending a pipeline to transport Iraqi gas abroad via Jordan.

Saif said the Iraqi side is very flexible in this regard.
