Fish Farming is one of many mega projects the Egyptian government is planning to implement around the Suez Canal, said Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy.

The project is meant to secure thousands of tons of fish daily, Fahmy told MENA on Friday.

An environmental study has already been outlined, the minister said.

Two working teams have been formed to guarantee environmental standards are met and to establish an advanced aquaculture system, Fahmy said.

He touched upon a long-term environmental plan set particularly for the New Suez Canal.

Environment experts are currently working with their counterparts at the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) to prepare a number of environmental studies needed to develop the Suez Canal region, Fahmy further said.

The fish farming project will be inaugurated with the New Suez Canal next week following directives by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the minister said.

It is the biggest aquaculture model worldwide, Fahmy said, noting that it groups 3,828 tanks, of which 1,380 will go into effect next week.

The infrastructure of the project cost some 650 million pounds, Fahmy added.
