Electricity minister Mohammad Shaker

Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mohammad Shaker asserted on Tuesday the government is concerned with the new renewable energy resources and the energy conservation in light of the growing increase in the energy consumption rates and shortage in the available resources of the conventional fuel.
Shaker made these remarks during his participation in the Egyptian-German High Level Joint Committee for Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Environmental Protection.
The meeting was attended by Germany Ambassador to Egypt Hansjörg Haber, Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy and Head of the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) Sherif Muharram.
The meeting presents a good opportunity for discussing the best ways to activate the necessary mechanisms for using renewable energy nationwide and raising awareness of energy conservation, the minister said.
The minister added that Egypt enjoys a wealth of renewable energy resources, especially from the wind and the sun, noticing that a wind farm with a 574-megawatt capacity and a solar wind with 140-megawatt capacity was also established in Egypt.
He signaled that the Electricity sector has taken steps to improve the energy efficiency like programs for improving the stations' performance, reducing the fuel consumption rates and reducing losses in electricity pylons as well as programs for securing street and houses' lighting.
