Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazi

The Khartoum negotiations addressing the concerns of Egypt and Sudan over Ethiopia’s renaissance dam have been a positive step to be followed by others after the document is submitted to the three heads of state for approval, Egyptian Water Resources Minister Hossam Moghazy said.
Speaking to MENA correspondent here, Moghazy said the continued efforts of the foreign and water resources ministers of the three countries over the past three days had resulted in reaching an agreement on the principles of cooperation.
He said he hopes the deal gets endorsed to start its enforcement and begin new steps of cooperation between the three countries.
The three countries had agreed on a mechanism for operating the Ethiopian dam and cooperating at the political level, he said.
As for the technical aspect, experts of the three countries are currently reviewing the offers of the four international consultancy firms to carry out studies on the dam, he added.
The winning consultancy firm will be announced on March 9 to conduct two studies (water and environmental), he said, adding that after 10 days the three countries will sign the contract with the firm.
