Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hossam Moghazi said the rate of water shortage stands now at 20 billion cubic meters and could rise.
Moghazi blamed overpopulation for the shortage.
"The number of population is 90 million and it is expected to reach 145 millions by 2050," he said.
"Egypt's quota from the Nile water is 55.5 billion cubic meters and has not increased over the past 25 years," he added.
