Hurricane Harvey on Friday further intensified into a dangerous category four storm, just hours before it was due to slam into the Texas coast, US meteorologists said.

Harvey was now packing sustained winds of 130 miles (215 kilometers) an hour, which were "spreading onto the middle Texas coast," the National Hurricane Center said.
