Two American and two Canadians have been kidnapped in an ambush in Kaduna state in northern Nigeria, police told AFP, in the latest abduction targeting foreign nationals.

Kaduna police spokesman Mukhtar Aliyu said "unknown armed men" seized the four on the road to Abuja at 7:00 pm (1800 GMT) Tuesday after a "fierce gun battle" that killed two police escorts.
