Tropical storm Patricia off the Pacific coast of Mexico has been upgraded to a hurricane, US forecasters said Thursday.

Patricia is packing maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kph) and is located 225 miles (365 km) southwest of resort town of Acapulco, the US Hurricane Center in Miami said. The hurricane is moving west-northwest at a speed of 16 mph (26 mph), the center said.
