Louis C.K.'s celebrated series Louie will return for a sixth season, but not until the Emmy-winning comedian is ready, FX confirmed.
"After writing, directing, starring in and mostly editing 61 episodes of television, he's anxious to take a break from the show and work on other things," The Hollywood Reporter said FX Networks and FX Productions Chief Executive Officer John Landgraf announced Friday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.
Landgraf said he didn't know exactly when the series would return or how many seasons it will ultimately run.
"Gosh, I hope 20 years is the outside date, but I think Curb Your Enthusiasm is the right analogy," he said, referring to how Larry David's HBO comedy returns every now and then for a new season.
"It's really going to be his choice," Landgraf said of the length of Louis C.K.'s break from the show. "It could be six months or two years."
The show took a nearly two-year break between its third and fourth seasons.
