U.S. cable network Syfy says it has acquired the adventure series "Sinbad" from BBC Worldwide America. The program is to premiere in the United States next April. It began airing in the United Kingdom in July. Starring newcomer Elliot Knight in the title role, the 12-part series follows Sinbad's sea-bound journey after he is forced to flee from his home town of Basra. The show co-stars Naveen Andrews, Sophie Okonedo, Timothy Spall and Dougray Scott. "When mystical meets muscle, anything can happen in this exciting, action-packed series. With its strong production values and rich story, 'Sinbad' will be a terrific addition to our prime-time lineup," Chris Regina, Syfy's senior vice president of programming and original movies, said in a statement Thursday. "This new version of a timeless classic is going to take American audiences by storm. Syfy is the perfect home for 'Sinbad,'" said Matt Forde, executive vice president of sales and co-productions for BBC Worldwide America.
