Green Globe announced recertification of the Rockhouse Hotel Negril, Jamaica. Situated in the Caribbean Sea, Rockhouse Hotel’s objective is to responsibly and sustainably balance the interests of guests, the team, and the community in its daily operations, while actively protecting the environment and delivering exceptional service for an unforgettable vacation experience. Green Globe Certification’s CEO, Guido Bauer, said: “We are very pleased to recertify the Rockhouse since they continue to improve sustainability management across their operations. Their community support via the Rockhouse Foundation, the charitable arm of the hotel, is absolutely admirable. The foundation has invested over US$1 million in local public schools and libraries. In communities whose basic needs far outstrip available resources, nothing is more enduring than creating valuable learning environments for students and educators and supporting childrens’ physical growth and well-being.” Since its inception in 2003, the Rockhouse Foundation’s largest project was to fully renovate and expand the Negril All Age and Basic Schools, as well as the Negril Library. Besides giving back to the community, the boutique hotel’s credo is to always meet the needs of hotel guests. In addition, the Rockhouse values its team by making each member a partner in the hotel’s success, providing fair compensation, encouraging them to openly communicate, and providing training and opportunities for advancement. Rockhouse Hotel Negril’s Environmental Manager, Jonnel Edwards, said: “Rockhouse is proud to have achieved the renewal of our Green Globe Certification. We are continually committed to improving our environmental performance. Highlights of this past year’s success include a decrease in overall utility usage, reduction in waste sent to landfill, and increased yield from compost. As we embark on the New Year, we look forward to continuing our dedication to environmentally-sound practices and our journey towards overall sustainability.”
