Hotel groups like Small Luxury Hotels are curating collections

In response to the growing demand for private, independent accommodations, hotelier group Small Luxury Hotels of the World has launched a separate collection of independent villas, ski chalets and estates.
The move follows on the heels of other luxury hotel groups like Relais & Chateaux and the Four Seasons, which likewise launched separate booking categories for private villas and residential rentals.
The industry has seen growing demand for independent rentals among multi-generational families traveling together or those seeking private getaways that offer minimal contact with staff and outside guests.
Private Residence by Small Luxury Hotels (SLH), meanwhile, offers the services of a small luxury hotel such as a private chef and concierge.
Properties include villas, ski chalets, estates and yachts with 10 rooms or less.
So far, the listing includes accommodations in France, Greece, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and the UK among others.
Vacation rentals have become increasingly popular among travelers looking for privacy and properties that can accommodate large groups of people be it for reunions, family vacations or corporate retreats.
A TripAdvisor poll released this year found that of the 1,100 US respondents, more than half (52 percent) said they plan on booking a vacation rental this year -- that’s up eight percent from last year.
More living space, lower rates and better amenities were cited as the top three reasons for renting private homes over a hotel.
SLH is a portfolio of 520 small, independent hotels in 80 countries.
