Captain D’s Seafood Kitchen said Monday it has acquired Grandy’s Country Cookin’, the Dallas-based breakfast, lunch and dinner chain, known for its homestyle comfort food. The 65-unit Grandy’s will operate as a separate subsidiary of Nashville, Tenn.-based Captain D’s. Its executive team will remain intact, the company said. Phil Greifeld will continue to serve as chief executive of Captain D’s and also assume that position at Grandy’s, the company said. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. In September, SSI Holding Group Corp., the former parent of the Grandy’s brand, and of Souper Salad, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. “Our heightened execution throughout 2011 has enabled us to significantly invest in the future of our D’s business,” Greifeld said in a statement. “Our company-wide operating diligence during the pat year has also provided us with the financial flexibility to purchase the Grandy’s chain.” Captain D’s has spent the past year revamping its menu to emphasize sandwiches and experimenting with new advertising to revitalize its image in the quick-service segment. Captain D’s owns, operates and franchises 527 restaurants in 25 states and military bases.
