One of the most important cooking competitions in the world -- which could be called the original ‘Iron Chef’ -- takes place in Lyon, Franceearly next year when top chefs from 24 countries will compete for culinary supremacy. And while the Bocuse d’Or is the main event, it’s part of a larger five-day food show that also includes an international pastry and ‘creativity’ competition.
Every two years, the ‘Olympics’ of the food world is held in France’s gastronomic capital of Lyon, France, where chefs aim to cook the meal of their lives and capture the gold medal for their country.
New this year, chefs from Chile will represent their country for the first time. Also for the first time, competitors for the title of best chef 2015 will also be judged on how they integrate principles of sustainability in their dishes.
Meanwhile, the Bocuse d’Or, which takes place January 27 to 28, is one of several different events throughout the five-day Sirha trade show.

Pastry World Cup (Coupe du Monde de la Patisserie)
January 25 - 26
This year, 22 teams, each composed of a pastry chef, chocolatier, and ice sculptor, will compete to take the championship cup. Last year France took the gold medal.

World Cuisine Summit
January 27
A recent addition to the Sirha food show, the World Cuisine Summit features guest speakers to talk about important issues confronting chefs and restaurateurs. This year’s overarching theme is ‘Food service solutions for a better world’ with panel discussions on how to reinvent the food ecosystem, sustainability and, ‘innovating for a better world.’ This year’s speakers include everyone from top chefs (Gaston Acurio of Peru, Helena Rizzo of Brazil) to a sociologist, architect and designer.

Food Studio
A food lab for creativity, here some of the top chefs in France (Pierre-Sang Boyer, Jean-François Piège, Anne-Sophie Pic) will work with younger chefs to showcase the latest culinary trends and debut new ones.
