Unusually warm weather and strong winds in the Primorye Territory, in Russia’s Far East, may result in numerous forest fires in the region, the local Emergencies Ministry’s department said in a statement on Tuesday. “A dry and hot weather with wind gusts of 17 meters per second are expected to settle in the south and west of the Primorye Territory on April 10 and 11. This may result in wildfires, which pose a danger of spreading on residential areas located near forests,” the statement said. The ministry also said, that rescuers and firefighters extinguished on Tuesday three of five forest fires registered in the Primorye Territory over the past 24 hours. Most of the forest fires start because of the careless behavior of local residents. Two years ago forest fires devastated a number of regions in central Russia, killing over 60 people and leaving thousands homeless.
