The legal status of the private taxis operating in Egypt will be readjusted within one month, the Cabinet said on Wednesday.
An ad-hoc committee, in charge of studying this case, recommended that a new legislation would be prepared within one month.
The Cabinet assigned the minister of legal affairs and House of Representatives to supervise this legislative modification measure.
Last Wednesday, the cabinet decided to form a ministerial panel to discuss the legality of operating private cars as taxi using smart mobile applications like Uber and Careem.
The committee was headed by the minister of justice with the membership of the ministers of transport, finance, social solidarity, investment and local development.
The panel was assigned to propose ways to address the problem at all levels. Its proposals were discussed during today's Cabinet meeting.
Taxi drivers have staged protests on some main roads in Cairo and Giza to demand a shutdown of private taxi operators like Uber and Careem.
