Moscow - Itar-Tass
Operation of the news Internet resource Gazeta.ru was suspended due to a hacker attack, the website of the news edition stated after restoring operations.
“Gazeta.ru was unavailable to the whole world, according to preliminary theory, due to a hacker attack through anonymous network Tor,” the news website said. Neither Russian telecommunications watchdog nor the Prosecutor General’s Office nor any court has blocked the website, chief editor of the news edition Svetlana Babayeva said.
“We have just been hacked. Moreover, I would like to say great thanks to the Federal Service for Supervision in Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Mass Communications which helped us to find out the cause of the problem and eliminate the aftermath of the hacker attack as quickly as possible,” Babayeva noted.
The Federal Service for Supervision in Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Mass Communications registers do not contain the domain name or the Internet address of Gazeta.ru, the press service of Russian telecommunications watchdog confirmed earlier. “The decision to block this resource was not taken,” the agency said.
