Arab League to organize Cairo Marathon

The Arab League humanitarian aid department, in partnership with the UN regional office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs in the Middle East and North Africa, will organize Cairo Marathon on Friday, in cooperation with Cairo Runners.

A statement by the Arab League on Thursday said the marathon, to start 7 a.m. Friday in Zamalek district, will be held to mark the World Humanitarian Day celebrations.

A number of international and regional organizations will take part in the marathon aiming to highlight humanitarian action and activities in a number of countries plagued by humanitarian crises, the statement said.

Real survival stories will also be there through the various social media platforms in support of "a more humanitarian world," according to the statement.

Cairo Runners is the leading running community in Egypt, and was one of the earliest pioneers in encouraging Egyptians to adopt a healthier, more energetic lifestyle, taking to the streets for early runs each Friday, and choosing different locations through the capital each time.
