Al Azhar has denied interference in choosing current Minister of Culture Abdel Wahed el Nabawy for the post.

Such reports are false and unfounded, Azhar's media center said in a statement.

Azhar respects the independence of all state institutions, the statement said.

A news website claimed that Azhar intervened in choosing Nabawy and in Egypt's culture policy.
