The National Council of Tourism & Antiquities

The National Council of Tourism & Antiquities (NCTA) has issued a unified e-glossary of archaeological and museum terms and definitions, and a list of renovation works at archaeological and heritage sites, and buildings.

Both, the glossary and the list were compiled and uploaded on the NCTA's website in co-ordination and co-operation with ICCROM-ATHAR (Architectural and Archaeological Tangible Heritage in the Arab Region), a regional conservation centre founded by ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property).

Mohammed Khamis Al Muhairi, Director-General of the NCTA, said the glossary would help professionals, researchers, academicians, experts and students to use common terms and definitions in scientific researches and reports, archaeological excavations and surveys, as well as works regarding renovation, preservation and restoration, and museum work.

ICCROM-ATHAR Regional Conservation Centre in Sharjah (ICCROM-ATHAR), the National Council for Tourism and Antiquities organised a workshop titled "Unifying Archaeological and Museum Terms and Definitions" in March, 2015, in Dubai.

'The publication of the glossary and the list were compiled as part of the NCTA's strategy to develop a pool of Emirati cadres in areas of archaeology and museums and improve the work of renovation experts,' he added.

Beginner staff and students in the archaeology and museums sector, he noted, will benefit the most as they will have access to a rich database of information on the subject
