Set of ancient artifacts

A collection of ancient statuettes and belongings were seized before their smuggling outside the country at Safaga Port on Thursday.

The seized relics include three Ushabti statuettes made of Egyptian faience and date back to the Pharaonic era, three wooden statuettes and a limestone bust of a wolf, head of the central department for antiquities at Egyptian ports Ahmed el Rawy said.

Also, four wooden masks covered with a layer of colored plaster, a 24-cm wooden stick, a 158-cm-long necklace of small faience pieces and 13 coins from the Graeco-Roman Period were seized, Rawy said.
