The Sheikh Zayed Book Award has announced the interim results of its nominations phase so far regarding the reading panels’ work in progress as part of its 10th edition proceedings.
The 'Young Author' category topped the list with a share of 27% of total nominations received, followed by 'Literature' with 22%, the 'Literary and Art Criticism' category came third with 15%, 'Best Contribution to the Development of Nations' came fourth with 11% of total nominations, closely followed by 'Children’s Literature' at 9% and 'Translation' at 8%. The award received a varying number of nominations across the rest of its categories.
The nominations poured in from a wide geographic spread across the Arab World, with Egypt registering more than one third of the total works accepted, followed by Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Iraq and Jordan. Lebanon, UAE, Algeria and Syria had a fair contribution to the total nominations as well. Significant nominations were also received in languages other than Arabic, primarily from the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, France, Holland, Spain and Japan.
Nominations are open until September 30th, followed by a three month assessment exercise carried out by renowned intellectuals and literary figures.
