NIHR receives French Senate delegation

Vice-Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), Abdulla Ahmed Al-Derazi, received here today a French Senate delegation, led by Senator Jean-Marie Bockel, currently on a visit to the Kingdom to be informed about its achievements in various fields.

NIHR’s Commissioners Council’s member, Dr. Hameed Hussain, and Resources and Services Director, Fahad Al-Ali, were present.

Al-Derazi stressed the steady growth of the Bahraini-French relations, lauding the role played by France, and strides made in the human rights field.

He briefed the delegation about the NIHR’s establishment and development since 2009, as well as its role in spreading human rights culture.

He also highlighted the NIHR’s training programmes for university students, law-enforcement personnel, judges and the public, in addition to the consultations it provides for the executive, legislative and judicial branches.

Tackling the development pf the human rights situation in Bahrain, the NIHR’s Vice-Chairman affirmed the leadership’s commitment to achieving a balance between stability and reform in a way that takes into consideration the international human rights principles and values, particularly the freedoms of opinion and expression and religious tolerance, citing His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s direct support for human rights institutions, including NIHR, out of HM’s belief in the human dignity. 

Members of the French Senate delegation lauded the NIHR’s role in consolidating and protecting human rights in Bahrain, and expressed admiration for the strides made.

Shura Council member, Hala Ramzi Fayez, Senator Claude Kern and Senator Sylvie Goy-Chavent, also attended.
