South Korea will send a team of high-level security and trade officials to Washington this week to discuss cooperation on key policy issues with the US government transition team, the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae said Tuesday.
The delegation, led by Cho Tae-yong, deputy chief of the National Security Office under the presidential office, will meet with key members of US President-elect Donald Trump's transition team from Wednesday through Saturday, it said, according to state news agency (Yonhap).
The presidential office said that they would seek to lay the groundwork for bilateral cooperation in coping with Pyongyang's nuclear and missile threats, during its talks with officials on the Trump transition team.
The office also said that the delegation would seek discussions on ways to further develop mutually-beneficial relations between the two countries.
