R&B sensation The Weeknd and punk rockers Green Day will be among the performers on Sunday at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
The network announced Thursday that The Weeknd would sing "Starboy," the first single off his upcoming album of the same name, at the internationally broadcast gala in the Dutch city of Rotterdam.
The appearance is one of only a handful by the fast-rising Canadian star before he embarks on a tour in February that will start in Stockholm.
MTV recently announced that Green Day would also play the Rotterdam show, where the band will be presented the Global Icon Award in recognition of life achievement.
Green Day led a rebirth of punk rock in the early 1990s and the band last year was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in its first year of eligibility.
The San Francisco rockers returned to number one last month in several countries with their latest album "Revolution Radio," whose first single "Bang Bang" indicted US gun culture.
The MTV Europe Music Awards, to be aired globally on television as well as over social media, aims to reach a more international audience than the network's signature US-based Video Music Awards.
Other stars set to appear range from pop chart-toppers Bruno Mars and Shawn Mendes to Bollywood starlet Deepika Padukone.
