Cairo - Arab Today
On Thursday 11 June at 10 am, Masreya Media, in collaboration with Misr International Films and Zawya Cinema, is to host a special screening of Youssef Chahine’s 1963 film Al Nasser Saladin, designed for the blind and visually impaired.
Starring Ahmed Mazhar and Nadia Lotfy, the feature film tells the story of Saladin's epic fight against the Crusaders to keep Jerusalem in Arab hands in the 12th century.
The screening is to include audio description, which adds supplemental narration to describe scenes, clothes and body language.
The technique, which transforms visual elements in film, theatre, exhibitions, opera and even television programmes into vivid narration, has been hailed for its innovative ability to bring visual art to those usually cannot enjoy it.
The event's organisers have invited students from a number of schools and colleges to see the film.
