Facilities offered to passengers with reduced mobility

Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operator and managing body of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), announced the addition of several facilities aimed at improving the travel experience of Passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRM) and accommodating their special requirements.

These new services, announced on World Disability Day, include dedicated parking spaces located within the closest possible proximity to the entrance gate, paved roads and slopes for smoother transport, as well as six reserved parking slots in the Arrival Area’s pick-up and exit lane. Dedicated signage provides directional guidance and information.
There are also now reserved PRM slots near the Gulf Air gate and the gates for other airlines in the Departure Area. Escort services to the aircraft by high-loader vehicles are available upon request, and guide dogs for blind passengers are allowed inside the passenger compartment, depending on the airline and destination. Additional facilities and services include special check-in counters, a dedicated PRM lane and fast-track counter, wheelchairs, private toilets, and elevators.
Bahrain Airport Company Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah said: "We consider passenger convenience a necessity, not just a luxury. Our airport caters to many types of passengers every day, and we consider it our responsibility to ensure that all of them enjoy similar levels of comfort from the moment they arrive, all the way until the time their flights depart. In line with international standards, these additional facilities and enhancements ensure that passengers with physical handicaps will have a far more pleasant experience, and spend less time traveling through the airport."
PRMs are now also exempted from paying for additional service fees on Gulf Air flights. Other airlines have also been requested to provide certain documentation to qualify their passengers for the same exemption.
